Benefits of the Marseille Soaps range: Cleansing, Purifying, Regulating
Thanks to its extra pure plant composition, Marseille soap is excellent for oily and acne-prone skin.
It deeply cleanses the skin and regulates sebum production. Dermatologists recommend it. This soap cares for all skin types, especially the most sensitive.
The first soap factories were established in the 12th century in Spain and Italy, and then in the mid-15th century in Marseille. Alep soap is considered the father of all these European soaps.
However, it was during the Middle Ages that the traditional recipe for soap, known today, was born with the addition of lime to the washed ashes.
This technique developed in Marseille and the south of France over the following centuries, thanks to the abundance of raw materials in the region: olive oil, salt, and salicornia ash from the Camargue. Later, palm oil and copra from the colonies refined the original recipe.
By the 19th century, Marseille became the main producer. The city lends its name to the manufacturing process, with more than a dozen soap factories. Natural and entirely biodegradable, Marseille soap is prized for its ecological qualities.
